Overview


The Board of Selectmen is the governing body of the Town. There are five Selectmen, elected for staggered three-year terms. The Board of Selectmen appoints the Town Administrator and most boards, committees and commissions. The Board works within the framework of Town bylaws and pertinent General Laws of the Commonwealth.

The Board of Selectmen is responsible for:

  • Appointing the Town Administrator.
  • Appointing boards, committees and commissions as determined by State law and local bylaw.
  • Issuing alcoholic beverages licenses and other licenses.
  • Setting overall policy - financial and otherwise - for the Town.
