BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – July 5, 2018

Thank You!
The July 4th Committee and Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl Marshall have our deep appreciation for all their hard work putting together the event of this week.  It is always great to see the community come together for the celebrations.  It takes a significant amount of organizing and effort to pull all the elements together and the volunteers and staff do a great job.  Thank you to all!

Intersection Update:  Next steps for the Pine/Central/Bridge/Bennett intersection is to assess the best locations for the crosswalks, review whether a portion of Bennett should be made one way, pursue the placement of speed monitoring signs for traffic entering into town, and consider speed bumps.  The Selectmen will finalize these actions at their next meeting on July 16.  Trying out a four way stop is not being pursued given concerns about noise/air pollution and backing up traffic on the much more dominant east/west traffic flows.

Route 127 Paving: Good progress is being made on the repaving of Route 127/Summer Street from Hickory Hill eastward to the Magnolia Woods field complex in Gloucester.  Depending on weather, etc., the work may last through July.  Expect travel delays.  We are pleased the state is undertaking this work but understand it is not a town project that we control.

Wanted:  18 civic minded residents! About a dozen and a half vacancies exist on various committees and boards from the Animal Control Board to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Town relies on volunteers to carry out many important municipal functions.  Most groups meet once or twice a month.  Interested in serving?  Fill out a volunteer application form which can be found on the Town’s web site.  Need more information?  Stop by the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall.
