BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – July 12, 2018
Selectmen Meeting Schedule: Due to summer schedules, the regular Selectmen Meetings may deviate from the normal 1st and 3rd Monday’s. Our next meeting is Monday, July 16th. A special joint meeting with the School Committee, our Finance Committee, and Essex’s Selectmen and Finance Committee is scheduled for July 25 at the High School. Stay tuned for future meeting dates.
Pedestrian Bridge Repairs: The School District has reached an agreement with the truck driver’s insurance company and the repair work to the pedestrian bridge over Lincoln Street will be completed over the course of the next couple of weeks. Later in August the Town will be repaving Lincoln Street and in the process will be lowering the road slightly to gain more clearance for the pedestrian overpass.
Intersection Update: Next steps for the Pine/Central/Bridge/Bennett intersection is to assess the best locations for the crosswalks, review whether a portion of Bennett should be made one way, pursue the placement of speed monitoring signs for traffic entering into town, and consider speed bumps. The Selectmen will finalize these actions at their next meeting on July 16. Trying out a four way stop is not being pursued given concerns about noise/air pollution and backing up traffic on the much more dominant east/west traffic flows.
Route 127 Paving: Good progress is being made on the repaving of Route 127/Summer Street from Hickory Hill eastward to the Magnolia Woods field complex in Gloucester. Depending on weather, etc., the work may last through July. Expect travel delays. We are pleased the state is undertaking this work but understand it is not a town project that we control.
Wanted: 18 civic minded residents! About a dozen and a half vacancies exist on various committees and boards from the Animal Control Board to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Town relies on volunteers to carry out many important municipal functions. Most groups meet once or twice a month. Interested in serving? Fill out a volunteer application form which can be found on the Town’s web site. Need more information? Stop by the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall.
Trash, Recycling, and Compost pick up: Regular Monday and Tuesday pickups
