BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – July 19, 2018

Water Conservation Encouraged!  Despite the rain earlier this week we are experiencing below normal rainfall and higher than normal temperatures.  The state is carefully monitoring water table levels and may require localities to implement outdoor watering bans.  Please help us conserve our water supplies by limiting your use of tap water, especially by curbing outdoor use.

Note our upcoming Meeting Schedule: Due to summer schedules, the regular Selectmen Meetings may deviate from the normal 1st and 3rd Monday’s.  A special joint meeting with the School Committee, our Finance Committee, and Essex’s Selectmen and Finance Committee is scheduled for July 25 at the High School.  In August, we will hold a meeting on August 8., the first half for regular business and the second half for a discussion with the Finance Committee on the proposed new elementary school.

Pedestrian Bridge Repairs:  The School District has reached an agreement with the truck driver’s insurance company and the repair work to the pedestrian bridge over Lincoln Street will be completed over the course of the next couple of weeks.  Later in August the Town will be repaving Lincoln Street and in the process will be lowering the road slightly to gain more clearance for the pedestrian overpass.

Wanted:  18 civic minded residents! About a dozen and a half vacancies exist on various committees and boards from the Animal Control Board to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Town relies on volunteers to carry out many important municipal functions.  Most groups meet once or twice a month.  Interested in serving?  Fill out a volunteer application form which can be found on the Town’s web site.  Need more information?  Stop by the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall.
