BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – September 19, 2019
What’s a 40R District? The Planning Board is hosting a community discussion on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00PM at the high school to discuss the possibility of a 40R Smart Growth Overlay Zone to help guide development in the current Limited Commercial District (LCD.) The LCD covers lands to the north of Route 128. Specialists from the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development will present an overview of what a 40R overlay district is and facilitate a discussion as to whether the Town should consider this land use planning tool as we explore zoning changes for the LCD.
Complete Streets Status: After a second try the Town received bids on the four “complete streets” projects. The bids have come in significantly higher than the original concept estimates. We are waiting to hear from the state as to whether we can target our grant award to just a couple of the projects given the original award is insufficient to complete all four projects. Once we have a decision from the state the Board will host a public discussion on how best to proceed and with what final design elements. We anticipate doing this at one of our October meetings.
Fire Chief Search Committee: We will soon be starting the search to hire a new Fire Chief. Residents who are interested in assisting in the search process should send a letter/email expressing their interest to Sonja Nathan, Executive Assistant to the Town Administrator (nathans@manchester.ma.us) . A game plan for filling the Police Chief position will be finalized within a few weeks.
Trash, Recycling, Compost: Regular Monday and Tuesday pick-ups; Please remember NOT to use plastic bags for your recycled goods!
