Precious moments can be lost while emergency personnel attempt to find a location in the case of an emergency when house numbers are not clearly visible or do not exist. You or your loved one could be in danger!
Massachusetts General Law (Ch. 148x59) requires that all buildings have a steet number that can be seen clearly from the road. Local ordinance requires that the number be a minimum size of three inches in height and contrasting in color. It is recommended that the number be reflective.
All structures are required to have numbers facing the street. It is recommended that they be placed on the frame of the main entrance on the lock side.
All numbers are required to be a minimum of 4", and should be reflective, block style, contrasting color. Numbers, not letters, should be used.
Any senior citizen requiring assistance to comply with this important law should contact the Manchester Council on Aging at (978) 526-7500.
This project is being done through an Eagle Scout Leadership Project of Troop 3, Manchester by-the-Sea.
