Executive Board Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Vice Chairman Bob Howard. The Board reviewed the minutes of the September 10, 2008 meeting. Bob Howard moved to accept the minutes; Susana Thompson seconded the motion and all members voted in favor.
Director’s Report: Nancy Hammond reported that the COA budget is in good shape due to lower gasoline prices.
The October memo describing activities and trips has been sent to the Board of Selectmen and the Town Administrator.
The Manchester TRIAD signed the group’s charter on September 30. Over 50 people witnessed an event that included the beginning of the ‘yellow dot program’ for Manchester Seniors. The national program is intended to improve the safety of seniors by issuing a card with vital personal health information that will be placed in a vehicle’s glove compartment in case of an automobile accident. The Essex County Sheriff’s Department distributed over 50 photo identification cards to the seniors in attendance.
New fall activities, especially Scrabble, and Chair Massage are very successful. The StrongWoman program has 40 to 50 participants every week. A special Halloween event for Seniors is being organized by Linda Kiley.
A motion to accept the COA events and trips, mindful of deletions or additions, was made by Bob Howard and seconded by Linda Kiley. All members voted in favor.
Friend’s Report: The Quilt Show takes place on October 11. Volunteers will prepare a light luncheon with desserts provided by local restaurants. All proceeds benefit COA Programs and Projects.
The Town Phone Book will be on sale in early December.
New Business:
The popular Civil Disturbance Dixieland Jazz Band Dance will be held on November 2. Dessert contributions are needed.
Su Kwedor and Marie Lopresti were welomed as new members by Bob Howard.
Bob Howard moved to accept the New Business; Joslyn Becker seconded the motion and all were in favor.
Old Business:The Board of Selectmen continue work on the Town of Manchester Committee Handbook.
Bob Howard moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 P.M.; Su Kwedor seconded the motion and all members were in favor.
