COA Board Minutes 4-9-08
Manchester Council On Aging (COA)
Executive Board Meeting
April 9, 2008

Members Present:  Denise Samolchuk, Steve Gillespie, Janet Groth, Bob Howard, Linda Kiley, Susana Thompson and Joslyn Becker
Members Absent:  None
Staff Present:  Nancy Hammond and Leslie Davidson
Friends of the COA Present:  Martha Elder

Chair’s Report:  Chair Denise Samolchuk called the meeting to order at 5:32PM. Minutes from the February 13, 2008 meeting were read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bob Howard and seconded by Steve Gillespie.

Director’s Report:  Nancy Hammond reviewed the February and March COA monthly reports to the Board of Selectmen and the Town Administrator.
The budget was discussed with particular attention paid to gasoline costs.  Nancy has established a policy that the vans will not be used for recreational travel unless half the seats are occupied and, because of gas prices, more local trips will be planned.  The DPW expects to install gasoline tanks for the use of official town vehicles.
The State Formula Grant money for fy08 has arrived and is used primarily for Leslie’s salary.
The May 31, 2008 Health & Wellness Fair has seventeen health agencies represented.  There will be a chowder lunch fund raiser, interactive Fair activities and entertainment.  Cell phones and eyeglasses will be collected.
The traditional Summer Cookout and Chicken/Ribs Barbecue have been booked for July and August.  Tickets for upcoming North Shore Music Theatre productions are available and Seniors are eagerly anticipating the Odyssey Luncheon Cruise and other summer trips and events.

Friends of the COA Report:  Martha Elder announced that work on the new town phonebook is underway.  There will be a Quilt Show and luncheon on October 18.  All projects raise funds to underwrite COA activities.

New Business:  A nominating committee will be appointed at the next meeting on May 14, 2008.

Old Business:  Nancy Hammond thanked Richard Lysiak and his catering team for a wonderful “lunch of the month” on April 4.  La Petite Choral provided the entertainment for about 50 guests.

A motion to adjourn at 5:50 was made by Linda Kiley and seconded by Steve Gillespie.

Respectfully submitted,
Joslyn Becker
