Manchester Council On Aging (COA)
                                                    Executive Board Meeting
                                                         January 14, 2009

Members Present:~ Steve Gillespie, Bob Howard, Linda Kiley, Su Kwedor, Marie Lopresti and Joslyn Becker
Members Absent:~ Janet Groth-Turner and Susana Thompson
Staff Present:~ Nancy Hammond and Leslie Davidson

The meeting was called to order at 5:35 P.M. by Chairman Steve Gillespie.~ The Board reviewed the minutes of the November 14, 2008 meeting. ~Linda Kiley moved to accept the minutes; Bob Howard seconded the motion and all members voted in favor.

Director's Report:~ The 2008 budget ended in good fiscal condition. ~On February 3, Nancy will meet with the Finance Committee and get recommendations for 2009 line items. Town finances are tight in all departments.

A concerned citizen wrote to the Board of Selectmen regarding the legal basis for the Manchester Council on Aging. The citizen was referred to the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter40, section 8B.~ The Manchester Council on Aging is in complete compliance with Chapter 40, section 8B.

At the December Holiday Luncheon, third grade girl scouts and their leader, donated 50 First Aid Kits prepared for Seniors.~ 50 fleece blankets were given to the COA by a local drug representative.

Manchester COA has several special trips and events scheduled in the next months.~ The April 27 visit to "Art in Bloom" at the Museum of Fine Arts is especially anticipated.~ Plans will soon be underway for a ~spring Health Fair.

Friend's Report:~ The December Pancake Breakfast was a successful holiday fundraiser.~ Children enjoyed Mickey Mouse pancakes and candy canes; adults bought raffle tickets for a gift basket

Over 700 Town Telephone books have been sold.

Martha Elder asked how many annual COA activities the Friends are expected to fund, and, should the funding support activities exclusively for Manchester Seniors. ~A Board member commented that other local COAs welcome Seniors from out of town with space available policies.

New Business: ~The COA Board offer Nancy condolences on the loss of her mother.

Linda Kiley will organize an intergenerational Valentine party with kindergarten classes and Seniors.

Bob Howard moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 P.M.~ Linda Kiley seconded the motion and all members were in favor.
