COA Minutes 4-14-10
Manchester Council on Aging
Executive Board Meeting
April 14, 2010

Members Present:  Bob Howard, Marie Lopresti, Susana Thompson, Linda Kiley and Su Kwedor.
Members Absent:  Steve Gillespie & Janet Groth-Turner
Staff Present:  Nancy Hammond and Michele Daly
Friends of the COA present:  Adele Ervin

The meeting was called to order at 5:35 by Bob Howard.  The Board reviewed the Minutes of the March 10th meeting.  Bob voted to accept the minutes; the motion was seconded by Linda Kiley and all were in favor.

Director's Report & New Business:  Nancy handed out copies of the budget and announced that we are "in great shape," especially good news given the increased usage of the vans.  There are currently 3 drivers in use and Wednesdays are especially busy with both vans being active all day.

We were reminded of the Conflict of Interest online test and Nancy thanked all who completed it.  Adele Ervin added that the members of the Friends had to read it and sign something, but that the test was not required of them.

Along with the budget, we also received a letter from the Selectman's' office in regard to the members of the COA Board whose appointments are soon to expire.  It is hoped that Linda Kiley and Janet Groth-Turner will apply for re-appointment.

Nancy has confirmed that there will be a yard sale in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Church on June 12th.  There will also be a Bake Sale table and Linda has volunteered to work with the Friends, who currently have a list, to organize bakers.  Also, Theresa Shompe has suggested that the COA have their own table of goods to sell to raise money, all of which will go into the revolving acco8unt.

The Summer Cookout at Tuck's Point will take place on Tuesday, July 27th.  It will be put on by Dick Lysiak and is funded by the Friends.

Nancy reports that the Triad Council will be starting their house  numbering project from mid-May through June and then again in the fall.  According to state and town law, a 3 1/2" high number needs to be visible from the street for every house.

A question was raised about Senior Care.  Nancy explained that they are a matching grant program.  The town has to pay in for everything that they get back.

Friends Report:  Adele Ervin is present for the Friends.  She reminds the board that the Friends exists to raise and provide funds for the COA and it's programs.  At present, the Friends feels that there are sufficient funds at hand  and are looking at what they need to do in the future.

They are planning to cut down on the number of meetings throughout the year though they have not yet decided which months they will meet.

The Friends are planning on once again sponsoring the pancake breakfast at the Landing this year.

Nancy asked if she could have 5 phone books to have on hand in her office for any requests that she may receive.  Adele will make sure that she gets them.  It was also noted that there will not be another "new" phone book this year, but that there is an addendum in the works for corrections and /or additions to the current phone book.

Adele reports that the Friends drive for new membership is going well with over 200 responses so far.  She also noted that those who donate are now called "donors" & not "members."

The meeting was adjourned at 6:02 pm.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 12th at 5:30 PM.
