Executive Board Meeting
January 9, 2008

Chair’s Report:~ Chair Denise Samolchuk called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM. She introduced and welcomed Linda Kiley, new member of the Executive Board. A motion to accept minutes from the November 14, 2007 meeting was made by Steve Gillespie and seconded by Bob Howard.

Director’s Report:~ Nancy Hammond announced that despite rising gasoline prices, overall line item expenses continue to stay within the confines of the COA budget.~ Nancy’s recent reports to the Board of Selectmen described the many opportunities for seniors to enjoy trips and other activities during the holiday season.~ The vans provided over 742 rides during November and December.~ Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were delivered to Manchester shut-ins and seniors by the COA Office. The meal project is so successful that Easter dinners will be delivered also. ~A new Tai Chi class begins in February.~ Ongoing weekly activities continue to be popular and the COA Events/Trips schedule for the next three months looks exciting.~ A motion to approve the COA Events/Trips was made by Steve Gillespie and seconded by Linda Kiley.

New Business:~ A Board member asked whether a 2008 Health Fair would take place at the High School.~ Nancy pointed out that parking is difficult due to construction and required janitorial services are very expensive.~ She will look for another site and report back to the Board. ~The Board wondered if the change in the insurance coverage for retired Town employees impacted the COA Office.~ The reply was affirmative.~
~
Old Business:~ Board members were asked to read a draft of the COA Office survey that will attempt to determine the services and programs desired by Manchester seniors.~ The survey .will be discussed at the next Board meeting.~ The Volunteer Advocacy Program training is complete.~ Six volunteers are ready to work; the next training begins in the spring.~ The Friends have pledged to fund the Program should the Ann Wood Kelley Fund be depleted.~ The intergenerational games project is underway.~ Bingo will be played at the Plains on January 14.~ The Manchester Public Library will host intergenerational cribbage twice a month through March.~ If there is enough interest, dominoes and other games will be offered in the future.

A motion to adjourn at 5.55 PM was made by Steve Gillespie and seconded by Bob Howard.
