Trees
Tree removal and pruning is the responsibility of the Department of Public Works. This work is usually completed in the winter months. Fallen trees and branches which block roadways and impede access by emergency vehicles are removed at any time during the year.

Tree Removal
The Department of Public Works has an inventory of public trees planted along most roadways, so if a resident is not sure whether a tree is public or private the first step is to call the DPW office at 978-526-1242.  We will research the status of a tree and respond back to the resident.

If a resident thinks a Town tree should be removed a request should be put in writing and addressed to the Board of Selectmen. The tree will then be put onto a tree list to be discussed at a public hearing at a publicized meeting held by the Board of Selectmen.

The hearing notice will be published in the Manchester Cricket and the tree will be posted with the date, time and location of the public hearing.   Testimony will be taken from the Tree Warden, DPW personnel and interested citizens on whether the tree should be removed.  The Board of Selectmen then vote on whether or not to remove the tree.

Tree Pruning
Pruning is usually done after the tree removal list has been completed.  Any resident who has a concern about overhanging Town tree limbs should contact the DPW office.
