Minutes of 5.30.07
Manchester Essex Playing Fields Committee
May 30, 2007
Manchester Town Hall, Seaside One
8:00 p.m.

Members Present: Sue Taylor, Greg Blagden, Matt Casparius, Paul Goodwin, Rich Trembowicz, Mike Christopher, Hardy Nalley, Tony Giedt, Tom Arntsen,

Meeting opened at 8:15 p.m.

1. Review of minutes of May 8, 2007 – Correction – The $295.00 per light is a per week rate not a per day rate. Hardy Nalley made a motion to accept the minutes as amended.2nd by Greg Blagden. Motion passes

2. Brook Street Field Updates – Tony Giedt reported that the Planning Board approved the changes that we requested in the height of lights so that they are no all 70 feet tall. Greg Blagden talked to Musco Lighting and they can’t cut the poles; we would have to replace them completely if we wanted them shorter.

The DEP Appeal walk thru is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at Brook Street. Hardy Nalley  had a conversation with Manchester Electric about whether they could run power service from Brook Street near the Tennis Courts instead of running it from beside Memorial School. Manchester Electric reported that it would probably cost about $40,000.

Tony Giedt reported that after the walk thru on Thursday, we just wait until we hear from DEP. We should do some outreach with the Mackin’s to try and appease them but tomorrow is not the time.

3. Memorial Field Use – Tony  Giedt reported that the School Committee has signed off on paying the $9,500.00 to Essex for maintenance of Memorial Field.

Paul Goodwin asked Tony for a copy of the school committee minutes so that he has it for his records.  Tony said that he will have Tom Foley send an official letter and the minutes to him.

4. Field Needs Availability- Fall08/Spring – Sandy isn’t here so we will defer this item to the next meeting.

5. Future Field Possibilities – Greg Blagden asked what’s going to be the role of the point person for looking at future options. Tom Arntsen responded that this person would dig into the feasibility of a field at a certain site. Matt Casparius reported that before we start looking for new sites, we need to start with the 18 sites that the School Building Committee looked at. Rich Trembowicz mentioned that some of those sites were inaccessible which is why they were not chosen. Matt added that some of these sites maybe suitable for us even though they didn’t work for the school. Tony commented that we need to look at all sites so that we can say that we did our due diligence and considered all of our options. There is a site on Pine Street past 128 that was a very good option for the schools that may be a good option.

Greg Blagden suggested that we invite someone to the July Meeting to talk about the 18 sites that were considered, since we’re still dealing with the short term field issues. Tony Giedt will contact the School Building Committee (Sarah Creighton) to bring in someone to give us a presentation of sites and analysis.
