Water Distribution System
The DPW is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system. This includes investigating and repairing water main leaks, flushing, testing, and repairing fire hydrants. The distribution system includes the public water mains, valves and hydrants located throughout the Town and used to distribute water from the sources and standpipe to the customers.

Leaks
Leaks may be reported 24 hours a day at 978-526-1242. When reporting a leak, please let us know where the leak is and what the "symptoms" are.

During a leak, the Water Department will try to minimize any inconvenience or loss of water service, and service will be restored as soon as possible. We appreciated your understanding with this.

Flushing
Fire hydrants are flushed twice per year, once in the Spring, starting in April through May, and once in the Fall, starting after Labor Day and through October. The schedule for flushing is published weekly in the Manchester Cricket.

Hydrants are flushed at night starting at 9:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

During flushing, you may experience dirty or rusty water. It is recommended that any clothes washing be put off until after flushing is over and the water runs clear.
