BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – December 7, 2017
FY19 Preliminary Budget Meetings: The development of the Town and School budgets for next year is well underway. The School Committee will be presenting their preliminary budget on Wednesday, December 13 at 7PM at the high school. The Town’s preliminary budget will be presented on December 18, also at 7PM, at Town Hall. The budgets will undergo continuing review and refinement through the months of January and February before being finalized. However, citizen input at this stage is very helpful.
Citizen’s Panel being formed for the DPW Director Search: As we embark on hiring a permanent Director for the DPW we would like to have a citizen’s review panel assist in assessing the semi-finalists. Interested residents should contact the Selectmen’s Office. The current timeline has the panel being active in January and February.
Recreational Marijuana Facilities in MBTS: At our October town meeting, Manchester by the Sea voters enacted a limited moratorium on local recreational marijuana establishments. This gives our town time to ensure the new law will be implemented in manner that protects public interests and does not negatively impact residents, businesses, neighborhoods or economic development. We’d like to hear from you regarding recreational marijuana establishments in Manchester by the Sea. Representatives of the Board of Selectman, the Board of Health, and the Planning Board will be hosting two listening sessions for townspeople to raise their concerns. The first session was held on December 4th. The second session is scheduled for Saturday January 27th, 9:00-10:30 am at Manchester Community Center. Resident participation is essential in developing future policy. Please join us. Your opinion is needed. We’ll be there to listen and discuss future options.
New Smart 911 Program: The Police Department and the Council on Aging have teamed up to offer a new, free Safety Profile that can include any information you want 911 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency. The information you provide is immediately displayed to 911 call takers who can relay the information to responders. Sign up at the Police Department, the COA Office, or online at www. smart911.com.
