BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – January 24, 2019
Last Sunday’s House Fire: Our hearts go out to the Wood family as they begin the difficult process of starting over after losing everything to a terrible house fire. Our public safety personnel as well as staff from neighboring communities battled very challenging conditions. While the one house was a total loss, the crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other properties, a herculean task given the high winds. Their valiant efforts are sincerely appreciated. Also appreciated is the outpouring of community support for the family – a testament to the generosity of so many of our residents.
Exploring Shared services with Essex: A public forum to formally kick-off a study of options for greater collaboration between Manchester and Essex is scheduled for Thursday, January 31 beginning at 7PM at the Essex Town Hall. An overview of the study will be presented. Staff and residents will be provided an opportunity to share ideas with the consultants who have been hired from UMass Boston’s Collin’s Center to help us with the exploration of ideas.
Budget Development: Work continues on the review of the preliminary town and school budgets for FY2020 which will be voted on at the Annual Town Meeting in April. The School District hosts a final public hearing on their proposed budget January 29. The deadline for citizen petition articles is January 30th. Additional details can be found on the Town and District web sites.
