BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – August 15, 2019

Award Winning Audit Report:  Congratulations to Town Accountant Andrea Mainville and her assistant Linda Ellis  for compiling the annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) which, for the third year in a row, has received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting.  You can find the CAFR, which details Town revenues and expenditures and tracks historical trends, on the Town’s web site.  Work is underway for the CAFR for FY19 which ended June 30th.  Andrea is looking for a local artist willing to contribute images for the new report – contact her at MainvilleA@manchester.ma.us

Congratulations also to the Summer Program staff!  Another very successful Park and Recreation  summer program has concluded with a record number of children participating.  The staff did a terrific job providing fun and safe activities/outings for our youth.  Thanks also to the School District for accommodating the program out of the Middle/High School given the construction work underway at the Elementary School.

New Elementary School underway:  Speaking of the new school, construction work is going full steam ahead and off to a good start.  The first round of demolition is complete, the new foundation for the academic wing is being poured and soon the first deliveries of structural steel will be arriving.

Upcoming Meetings:  Our next board meeting is August 19th beginning at 6PM with an executive session to discuss a possible real estate transaction.  Regular business follows from 6:30-7:30. Starting at 7:30 we will be joined by our colleagues in Essex for a presentation on shared service opportunities between Manchester,  Essex and the School District.   A series of new recommendations for greater collaboration will be presented by the consultant that we hired with grant funds.  With the Labor Day holiday our first meeting in September will be on Tuesday, September 3.

Trash, Recycling, Compost: Normal Monday and Tuesday collections. Remember, do not place your recycled materials in a plastic bag or add any plastic bags to your recycling bin! Only cleaned materials please!
