SPRING UPDATES

Diaper Drive

The Manchester Board of Health and Public Health Nurse will be sponsoring a Diaper Drive benefiting Manchester families during the month of April. Diapers sized newborn to size 6 and wipes are needed. 
Drop off locations are: 

  • Town Hall
  • Crosby's
  • Manchester Public Library

Title 5 Subcommittee

The Board of Health has formed a subcommittee to review the local addenda to Title 5 (Here) The addenda was last reviewed in 2008. The goal of the subcommittee will be to identify important updates needed and make a recommendation to the Board of Health. Public is welcome to participate. The Board of Health is asking for comments to be submitted in advance of the meetings to lufkine@manchester.ma.us. 


Beach Water Testing

All public bathing beaches are required by the State to be tested weekly from Memorial Day through Labor Day for bacteria. This includes: 

  • Singing Beach
  • White Beach
  • Black Beach
  • Magnolia Beach East End (also known as Gray Beach, located closest to Shore Rd.)
  • Tuck's Point Beach
  • West Manchester Beach

State bathing beach water quality testing requirements are as follows: 
- Single Count Bacteria Test – must be under 104
- A geomean average (of last 5 tests) – must be under 35

Mosquito Control

Manchester residents who wish to exclude their property from applications performed by the Northeast Mosquito Control District may do so by filing their request directly with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (not the Town or Mosquito Control).  Requests take effect 14 days from the date the request is received by their department.  All exclusion requests expire on December 31 of the calendar year in which they are made.

Avian Flu

Massachusetts has been dealing with an ongoing outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A (HPAI) H5N1 virus since early 2022.  The H5N1 virus is affecting wild and domestic bird populations across the country.

Avian Flu in Wildlife - Report 5 or more deceased wild birds or a deceased bald eagle, peregrine falcon, or snowy owl HERE.

North Shore Mother Visiting Nurse Partnership

The Board of Health has joined a new partnership to help new mothers with an optional home visit from Manchester's Public Health Nurse Pamela Crehan. (Crehan is also a local Labor & Delivery Nurse)

NS MVP Public Health Nurses offer a supportive one-time visit to mothers and caregivers along with their babies during the first year. Home visits are free, confidential, and open to any mother or caregiver welcoming a new baby. Please contact the Board of Health office to schedule an appointment.
